Causes of Lower Back Pain

Many people immediately think of trauma to the spine, such as car accidents, slips and falls or sports injuries.

What we more commonly see at Cornerstone Family Chiropractic is the repetitive stress from normal daily activities that put our body through each day. For example, it is now well known that sitting at a desk 8 hours a days is very damaging to your spine. Your body is designed for movement, not inactivity. When you combine inactivity with poor sitting posture this only compounds the problem.

What Can I Do to Correct and Avoid Back Pain?

Here are a few things you can do immediately:

  • If you work at a desk all day, take a break every hour of the day to stand and move around
  • Make sure you have a high quality chair to sit on
  • Your arms and legs should be at 90 degree angles with your feet planted firmly on the floor
  • You should be looking straight ahead to your computer monitor, not up or down
  • Get a sit-stand workstation if you can afford one, or if your work can invest in one for you
  • Get a high quality, firm bed and pillow that fits the curvature of your neck
  • Keep your head up and shoulder back! Just like a king or queen
